'Ah!' says my companion of his programme at the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra's Messiaen and Mahler prom, 'lots of advertising!'  While I am boring him about other Mahler symphonies, he carefully unbends the staples and takes out the central pages. 'Are you undoing you programme?' I ask. 'I am comparing the weight of the adverts and the actual notes,' he says, 'and I have discovered that the adverts are twice as heavy as the rest.'
